Hello! Hello!
While being lazy online for the last few months, I haven't forgotten about the website. In summer with work and nice weather, sitting home for extra hours in front of a laptop is impossible (for me).
Being in Skopje for FIBA U16 European Championship for 12 days was a good chance to write on the blog. Basketball mixed with tourist activities is what I've been doing for many years. So, here we are again!
It was my first time in Skopje. Before leaving home, I made some research like "top things to do in Skopje" and created my list of things to do. OK, 12 days might seem long, but I couldn't complete my list as we spent very long hours in the arena, anyway we were there to work :) So, among the places I've been & things I've done, you can find my ranking below:
1) Kayaking at Matka
The kayaking experience in such a beautiful canyon has just filled my heart with happiness.
2) Wine tasting
This country is full of great wineries and wine. We were lucky to match some of the great wines of North Macedonia with great food.
3) Kafana nights
My love for Balkan songs & food makes me a natural fan of kafanas. If you are like me, you have to spend your nights in this country in kafanas. Here is a short video for one of my beloved songs:
4) Strolling around Old Bazaar
This part of the city is mainly Albanian & Turkish-speaking. If you are speaking either of these languages, you will feel at "home". So did I. It's not only the language but also the food & the shops were familiar to me.
5) Karposh neighbourhood for drinks
Karposh is a lively neighbourhood with many cafes / bars / restaurants. This is the part of Skopje, you should spend your evenings.
And finally, basketball. We watched many many many games. Sometimes it felt like too much. But in the end, it's my happy place. I came back home with many sweet memories. Looking forward to being back in this country & to many more overdosed basketball weeks.
PS. The plan was to share this post before the World Cup starts but I didn't. Anyway, here it is, I shared the post while watching Italy vs. the Dominican Republic.
